The Art and Science of skin peeling!
This process removes old skin and stimulates the regeneration of new smoother more even toned skin. The new skin is also softer more vibrant with less pigmentation and fewer wrinkles. It is often used to treat sundamage, age spots, dyschromia (hyper pigmentation), acne, mild acne scares, fine lines and for promoting a more rejuvenated healthier brighter skin. Chemical peels are often combined with microdermabrasion to optimize results.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids are naturally occurring, nontoxic organic acids. The efficacy of an AHA is not solely based on the percentage. The following must be considered – pH, - lower acidity is more active and may result in less control and a higher pH that is close to the pH of the skin may not offer the results, Grade – there are many grades, the highest is ultra pure crystalline grade, Buffering – this keeps the pH at the desired acidity level, & Stability – this is important for the control of free acids.
Salicylic Acid/Beta Acid is extracted from wintergreen and birch. It is a relatively safe, self-neutralizing, risk free acid and had been used in many applications for over 50 years. It has exfoliating, antioxidant, and antiseptic benefits.
TCA/Trichloracetic Acid will penetrate only if used in an aqueous base, it is self-neutralizing, non-toxic, and keratolytic. It is very effective and safe used in lower strengths (5-15%) and may be blended with other specific acids.
L-Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A and is very effective for sun induced wrinkles and pigmentation associated with aging skin. It is also very supportive for acne conditions. L-Retinol provides overall improvement of circulation and oxygenation of skin blood vessels.
Modified Jessner is a combination of three acids – Salicylic, Lactic, and Resorcinol. Dr. Max Jessner developed this formula when he discovered that combining lower strength acids would create a synergy that results in less risk and complications without reducing the efficacy.
Enzymes are proteins that digest the cells of the stratum corneum. They originate in living cells.
Our medical estheticians are highly trained to perform medical grade chemical peels to produce outstanding results with minimal risks or down time for our patients. These chemical peels are often combined with Microdermabrasion for added benefit.
When staying within the boundaries of aesthetic applications there are three levels of peeling that will occur – progressive (successive applications that result in no visible exfoliation but slowly overtime the skin begins to rejuvenate), mid-depth (mild flaking occurs within 2-3 days of the treatment), and deep (more aggressive peeling but removal is only at the epidermal level).
The success of a peel depends on four things – our knowledge, selecting fresh quality ingredients to work with, our ability to read the skin. And also our client's home regiment.
Remember, “A treatment is only as good as the therapist who delivers it.” We strive to be the best at what we do and have developed the art of skin peeling! |
