While Botox Cosmetic is the treatment of choice for dynamic wrinkles, dermal fillers add volume that time has taken away.the process is known as soft tissue augmentation. This treatment is used often to treat nasolabial folds, smile lines, depressed chins, marionette lines around the mouth and of course for sexier naturally fuller lips.
The whole face can also be contoured gradually with products such as Sculptra.
The most common fillers we use in our practice are hyaluronic acid filers such as Restylane & Hyalform. These show a distinct advantage over collagen based fillers as they are non animal based so do not require pre testing. In addition they usually last for 6-9 months, significantly longer than the collagen. These fillers used by a skilled injector provide natural looking beautiful results. Our patients are exceedingly happy with the outcomes.
Another filler that is gaining in popularity is Sculptra. This product is made up of polylactic acid crystals that are reconstituted with sterile water and injected throughout the whole face. Collagen then forms around these crystals over the next few months. Patients generally need 1-3 sessions at 4 week intervals. Full volume correction takes about 3-6 months from start of treatment. The benefit of this treatment is that it lasts anywhere from 18-24 months and is far more cost effective than fat injections with a lot less downtime or discomfort.
Regardless of the filler material used adverse reactions are possible but extremely rare. These include redness and local swelling and mild bruising for a few days.
Cosmetic fillers are extremely popular and yield excellent results in our practice and have created a loyal following of satisfied patients.
